Tools
for the Job: Paul’s Story
A few years
ago, Paul was homeless. Although he worked as a handyman for an
independent contractor, he spent a large part of his earnings renting
tools from his boss. Because of these hourly rental costs, Paul
couldn’t save enough money to move his family out of the shelter
and into permanent housing.
Paul applied
for Home-Based Business Assistance from the At Home Group™
to help offset his equipment expenses. With the grant money, Paul
was able to buy his own tools and start earning a living wage. Soon
he and his family moved out of the shelter and into their own home.
Eventually,
Paul started his own contracting business. Today, the company is
growing, and Paul and his family live independently.

Head
of her Class: Laura’s Story
Laura is precariously
housed, and currently pursuing a degree in human services at a local
college. When a family member recently passed away, a loan from
her school helped make it possible for Laura to travel cross-country
and attend the funeral.
Unfortunately,
Laura couldn’t register for her next class session until she
repaid the school loan. So Laura requested Employment Expense Assistance
from the At Home Group™. With the extra help, Laura paid her
loan in time for registration. As a result, she’s stayed on
track preparing for her new career and an independent life.

On
the Road to Success: Howard’s Story
Howard was living
in a shelter when he found a good job. Unfortunately, he worked
varying shifts, so it was difficult for Howard to depend on public
transportation for his commute.
Howard decided
buying a car would be the best way to make sure he’d always
make it to work on time. Between his own income and the additional
support from At Home Group™ Employment Assistance, Howard
was able to purchase a dependable car.
Now Howard has the freedom to commute whenever he needs to. He can
also visit friends and family more regularly.
